Gene "Ironman" smith

An enrolled member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Gene is an expert in the craft of metal art.  His parents (Choctaw and Oglala Lakota) encouraged him to use his artistic ability to honor their American Indian heritage.

Gene experimented with several mediums since a young man, then worked more than 15 years as a welder for Haliburton. In 2016 he began his metal working journey in the art world.

Gene feels a special connection to feathers and this is reflected in many of the designs that emerge from his art. Memories of his mother's stories led him to create his first life-size metal headdress, which he entitled "Traditional" in honor of her.

Gene heats raw metal with a torch to forge it into shape, then he uses a grinding wheel to etch designs and details.  Every sculpture Gene creates in unique.  Gene feels his inspiration comes from visions given to him by those watching over him.

Gene has received numerous awards and honors for his art and his pieces are collected by individuals as well as corporate clients.  The Gallery is pleased to show a monumental sculpture "Raindance" and his Eagle Talons have also proven to be popular with our customers.
